Sung To the tune of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
The incident happened in 1976-1977. Security found the piano, and Physical Plant [* called 'Green Men' at the time because of their uniforms] was called to remove it. Two guys showed up with one of those 3-wheeled golf-cart-like things. They were given orders to remove the piano before Cyert showed up for work at 7am.
The legend lives on from A Tower on down
To the gorge that they call Panther Hollow
Where is it today? Noone really can say
What became of the Morewood piano.
As baby grands go it was older than most
It had set fifty years in its corner
With its broken down keys and its out-of-tune Gs
'Til it went on its journey to Warner.
The RA it's said, was asleep in his bed
When the Gang From E Tower got rowdy
The Gang stayed up late, and they plotted the fate
of the Steinway that played in the lobby
They went through the door and crawled over the floor
Through the lobby the gang went a-creeping
Then that team-so-grotesque, pushed it past the front desk
Where the little-old-lady was sleeping
Security sobbed about losing their jobs
When they saw that piano near Warner
So the Green Men[*] of Tech, turned it into a wreck
With a twenty pound sledge and a crowbar
Does anyone know where the pieces all go
When pianos are turned into splinters?
Perhaps they are turned into firewood burned
During terribly cold Pittsburgh winters
The legend lives on from A Tower on down
To the gorge that they call Panther Hollow
Where is it today? Noone really can say
What became of the Morewood piano.
